Hello my dears,
today you can take a look at my new kitchen details, which I have come to love very much in a short time. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, either I’m cooking or cleaning, there is always something to do. You probably know that too, right? That is why our kitchen is not only practical but also decorative. If I have to clean, then at least look at nice things.
NEW KITCHEN DETAILS
Let’s start with these beautiful cans from Bloomingville. In which I keep sugar, once the white and once the brown. The coffee table just looks nicer with the pieces of sugar.
In the meantime I have a lot of wooden boards. They are not only used for cutting but also for serving. These are made of olive wood and by Jamie Oliver. And you know that I like him very much. They are also a gift from my mother-in-law. 🙂
Maybe you can still remember this cute teapot? My favorite pot. That’s why I show them almost every occasion I get. The cups next to it are self-painted, you can find the article here .
Here you can see one of my favorite plants. If you are looking for a hanging plant that is not only beautiful but also easy to care for, then this is the one for you. And it’s growing pretty fast too.
I have already met so many lovely people through my blog and social media channels. Dear Jana is one of them. She also made the wonderful cans and cups in the vintage style. These things are just beautiful to fall in love with!
It was love at first sight when I saw this picture on Facebook. But it took me forever to find out which artist this picture is from. I am ignorant. But hand on heart, the pictures by Ruben Ireland are just amazing. I definitely need more of this!
Last but not least, I’ll show you the buffet with the things we need every day. It almost always looks like this, only sometimes a little emptier. The melamine cups with the letters are from Design Letters. I opted for the melamine variant because they don’t break easily. Lilly had a broken glass in her hand before, that was really horror! Otherwise my crockery collection is rather mixed, butlers, Green Gate, H&M and Ikea. Simply everything that pleases.
Hope you enjoyed my kitchen treasures. Do you also have things in the kitchen that you would not give away anymore?
And the how-to series continues, today with the topic: How do I decorate a shelf? I think open wall shelves are absolutely beautiful, which is why we have so many in our apartment. Unfortunately, it is not that easy to decorate such shelves. Either you can do it with a “WOW effect” because you are a natural or not. But it doesn’t matter if you belong to the “or not” sort, after all, you can learn everything. And there are many helpful tips on how to decorate a shelf harmoniously and I have written down some of them for you.
My basic ingredients for a pretty and harmonious shelf
- Pictures / prints
- Decorative objects
AND NOW TO THE DECORATION TIPS FOR YOUR SHELF.
♥ ︎ 1st tip – things of different sizes close to each other. On the first level I put the picture with the saying and next to it 3 vases. As you can see, the picture is a lot higher than the vases. ∗ Normally I would have placed vases of different sizes at this point, but I’ll tell you below why 3 vases of the same size are necessary here.
♥ ︎ 2nd tip – form groups . On the second floor I made a group of 3 similar vases. These vases have different sizes, which makes it look much more interesting to the viewer. ∗ For comparison, the group of vases in the previous picture looks much more monotonous because the vases are all the same height. The plant next to it ensures the liveliness on the shelf.
♥ ︎ Tip 3 – splashes of color and odd numbers. In this case it’s flowers. In my opinion, there is no more beautiful decoration for your home than fresh flowers. Next to the flowers you can see 3 books. You can see that the number 3 repeats itself over and over again. There is also an explanation for this. When you’re building a group of things, it’s best to work with odd numbers, like 3, 5, or 7. It will sound totally weird now, but it will look more balanced on our eyes.
♥ ︎ Tip 4 – triangle. Make a triangle out of 3 groups or decorative objects. Below I have books instead of vases, but the number is the same. You can use this method again and again. It doesn’t always have to be vases, plants are also good for this.
♥ ︎ 5th tip – opposites attract. Just put vertical and horizontal things next to each other. To make it even more interesting, you can put one object in front of the other. Like the bird in front of the picture here. Just push things back and forth until it gets more dimensions and you like it,
♥ ︎ Tip 6 – It has to feel good ! What is the point if the shelf is well received by others but does not evoke positive feelings in you?
So listen to your heart a little with all the helpful tips. When you don’t feel comfortable in your home. Where then?
THE BEFORE PICTURE.
And here the finished decorated shelf.
How can you decorate your coffee table, there are here already a contribution.
I hope you enjoyed this post and I hope you enjoy decorating again.
As promised, today you can see pictures of the finished decorated wall grille. Decorating turned out to be a little more difficult than expected because the wall grille is already quite large. But ultimately, you can decorate your wall grille any way you want. Just hang up the things you like. That’s why there are no real tips from me. Today I’ll just tell you what I like to use to decorate my wall grille.
WALL GRID DECORATION IDEAS
Regardless of whether they are purchased or self-printed prints, they look great on such a wall grille. I usually take them in different sizes.
Many online shops include very cute (thank you) cards in their deliveries. I usually hang them up too. They are just too good for the drawer or the cupboard.
Photos definitely belong here too. Most of all I like my self-shot pictures in retro design.
Sunglasses, chains or even a sun hat can be hung up here, they look chic and you always know where they are.
A chain of lights or a cool lamp make a great decoration here and you also have a light source for your wall grille.
General purpose bracket
Such all-purpose clamps are good for hanging things up. You can of course also use other things for this, such as: clothespins or a clothes hanger for magazines.
I like my wall grille to be a little fuller, so more beautiful things will certainly come along over time.
And now come the promised prints that you can download. All prints are saved in A4, of course you can also print them out smaller.
Hope you enjoyed the article and the prints and wish you a lot of fun decorating.
After getting a lot of questions from the girls about the walls in the playroom, it was time to write a post about it. In this post I would like to answer your questions and try to answer them as well as possible. At the same time I’ll show you here how I put the wall stickers on the wall.
DIY WALL DESIGN
The wall stickers from I-Love-Wandtattoo have a smooth surface and a diameter of 3 cm. I would say they are more of a semi-gloss finish. You get a total of 60 points distributed on two DINA 4 sheets.
The most frequent question from you is by far this: At what distance were the points placed? Vertical: The distance between the circles is 30 cm. Horizontal: Here it is only 22 cm. Please don’t ask how I came up with the numbers … I just liked it best.
We have only had the wall stickers for a few months, so I cannot offer any long-term experience yet. So far, however, they can be removed without resistance and do not leave any traces. By the way, we have woodchip wallpaper, and it probably works even better on a smooth surface.
I bought my point stickers here* and they are currently on sale. But I am sure that you can buy them elsewhere.
I’m really excited about the wall stickers. The walls look super pretty and for very little effort and money. The best argument for the stickers is very clear, you can use them to design the walls simply but effectively. And if you don’t like it anymore, you can quickly remove it again. This is more than practical, especially in the children’s room.
I hope that this post was helpful for you and that it answered many open questions. But if something is still unclear, you are welcome to write to me.
For many, the kitchen is the heart of the house. It’s similar with us, our kitchen plays a really big role here. That’s why I’m so happy that everything (planning and implementation) went so well right from the start. Even before the move, I knew pretty well which kitchen furniture would come in and the decision to use wall tiles was also made quickly. From the first sight I knew that they would be a very good match for us.
Every time I show pictures of our kitchen, there are a lot of questions about the wall tiles. That’s why I decided to tell more about her. Perhaps you are currently looking for suitable tiles for the kitchen, then this post is just right for you!
ALL INFORMATION ABOUT THE WALL TILES
Sometimes the question arises whether the tiles are real. Yes they are. To be more precise, they are natural stone mosaics . You can get them on the net with the dimensions: 30.5 x 30.5 cm and the tile thickness is 8 mm. Mike laid the tiles himself, as he is a trained tiler (super practical when a craftsman is in the house?). We used white joints for this because we wanted a light overall picture.
As the name suggests, the tiles are untreated. It is therefore very important to treat them with a stain protection after laying / grouting so that the tiles can also be cleaned properly. If I’m not mistaken, I’ve treated the tiles with the stain protection 2 times in total. After the treatment, the tiles develop a slight lotus effect and the water simply rolls off.
The natural stone tiles are completely matt if they are untreated. Even after the stain protection has been applied, the tiles look slightly matt and completely natural, which is what I particularly like about them.
Overall, we are very satisfied with the tiles, they still look great after 2 years. Only the place directly behind the stove has become a little darker. But that is hardly noticeable. I can definitely recommend the tiles.
This way it goes to the natural stone tiles.
TIME FOR NEW FREEBIES!
And because you can never have enough prints, today I have provided 3 beautiful prints that fit well in the kitchen to print out. They are all saved in A4 format, but you can of course print them out in a smaller format.
In the last post I already told you that we removed the photo wallpaper in the dining room and today you will learn the reason for it. I will also tell you which wall paint we used and how you can mix it yourself. I don’t want to talk about the bush, the wallpaper had to go because I simply wanted something new. The wall with the map was really cool and totally different, but at some point I got tired of it. It’s definitely up to me, I just need changes in our home every now and then. Are you feeling the same?
After the photo wallpaper, the wall should shine in gray green or sage green. I’ve always liked the color. There is now a lot of choice of wall colors in the same tone. Soft morning dew, for example, has always been high on my wish list. In the end I couldn’t decide on a color (as almost always), so I decided to mix my favorite color myself.
I was a little afraid that it wouldn’t work. Incidentally, that wouldn’t have been the first time either. Nevertheless, I made an attempt, according to the motto – if you don’t dare, you won’t win. And I was really amazed that it turned out so well. For me it turned out to be the perfect color, it couldn’t have been better. Every time I look into the dining room and look at the wall, I’m just happy. The way it should be.
And because I know that many of you like to swing the paint roller, I’m telling you today how I got the color result.
MIX THE WALL PAINT YOURSELF
White emulsion paint
Solid color in green
Solid color in brown
And the mixing ratio is as follows:
1000 g white paint
20 g brown
20 g green
For our wall I used 3000 g of white paint and 60 g of each of the two solid colors. We didn’t need that much, but a small reserve of color is not wrong. Stirring is also important so that you get an even color result.
What I definitely have to mention, our wall was painted white beforehand. I don’t know if it makes a difference if the surface is dark in color. And I would definitely advise you to put test strips on the wall and let the colors work on you. The colors always look a little different in the pictures. As with my color, in real life the green comes out much more than in the pictures. We had 3 test strips in total. First with 100 g white paint, 2 g green and 2 g brown. The second mixture was 100 g with 3 g of full tone colors each. And the third with 4 g. We decided on the brightest version.
How are you all doing? Do you mix yourself or do you prefer to buy the ready-mixed colors?
As always, I hope that you like the wall color and wish you a nice day.
Shortly before Christmas, two lowboards were allowed to move in with us, namely those from the BESTÅ series from IKEA. One lowboard is intended for the television and the other has space for numerous decorations. For a long time I had been looking for an optimal and attractive solution for the television sector. BESTÅ was chosen because the cabinets are simple and timeless. And I would say that it was a really good decision, because I now really enjoy decorating the area again. And today I’ll show you how varied such a lowboard can be.
ONE LOWBOARD – MANY DECORATION IDEAS
Here you can see the variant with Christmas decorations. I really liked this variant, I would have loved to leave the self-folded stars hanging. But Christmas is coming again. 🙂 Black, white and gray dominate here. In winter I like such restrained colors very much.
After all the Christmas decorations had disappeared, I decorated the lowboard with this branch with pink pompoms and the wooden sign with wire writing . The mix of old, new and homemade is great anyway.
Due to the many candles and the branch with red berries (Ilex), the entire area looked much warmer than before.
At the moment it looks like this. Relatively simple and a tiny bit spring-like. By the way, the black stars are made of colored drawing paper. I don’t like to say goodbye to the stars just yet. Although some decorative elements, such as the white house, the candle holder and the right picture are also represented here, you can still see a clear difference to before.
AND NOW COME MY DECORATION TIPS AND MUST-HAVES FOR A LOWBOARD
- For me, pictures definitely belong on every lowboard. I make sure that the pictures create a similar mood. It also looks nice when you put pictures of different sizes next to each other. And because I’m often asked which artist is the big picture with the girl and the bird. The picture is from the photographer Vee Speers , she has an incredible number of beautiful pictures. And this picture is from THE BIRTHDAY PARTY series.
- Due to the simple design and the white color of the lowboard, it can happen that it looks a bit cool. To counteract this, I use decorative elements made of wood . Mostly made of old wood. Because of the (old) wood, the whole thing no longer looks so new and straightforward.
- Flowers, twigs or plants should of course not be missing here.
- I like to decorate with candles or fairy lights anyway. I like the LED wire fairy lights best, they make a super pleasant light and have something fairy about them.
- My last tip: Don’t always replace everything and buy new things to change something. Often it is enough to replace or rearrange a few small home accessories, combine new things and it looks completely different.
Today there is another kitchen update! Can you still remember my last kitchen post? In it I told you how I decorate the open kitchen shelves. If not, just hop over and see what the kitchen looked like before . The open shelves were of course allowed to stay as I still like them very much. In the end we didn’t do that much and still the kitchen looks completely different …
REDESIGN THE KITCHEN – QUICKLY AND EASILY WITH BLACKBOARD PAINT
As always, it started this time with the desire for a change. New kitchen furniture was out of the question as I still like it a lot. I quickly realized that the kitchen could do with a new wall paint. Somehow I found the light wall color pretty boring now. You probably know that too, at some point you just need a change.
We then painted the kitchen with a blackboard paint, dark gray. I’ve always been a big fan of blackboard paint / blackboard paint, but I didn’t know that they were also available in different shades. Did you know?
At first it took a lot of getting used to painting the walls with the blackboard paint, because it was very thick. We really thought that the color 1. would not be enough and 2. would not be easy to paint. Fortunately we were wrong. The color was easily enough for the area and there were no stripes etc.
A total of 3 walls were painted in dark gray. Quite a lot, I know. In between I was actually afraid that it would get too dark. Of course it is now darker in the kitchen but also much nicer! The white kitchen furniture and dishes are much more effective. I also feel much more comfortable in it and that is actually always the most important thing when setting up / decorating.
Right now this is my favorite corner in the kitchen. You may already know the DIY hook rail. If not, there is a DIY guide here . It used to hang in the dining room, but I like it even better in the kitchen.
There are moments in life when you just have to say yes. Especially when it is “only” about redesigning your own four walls. After all, you only live once. In any case, I’m really happy that I dared.
Oh yes, there are also blackboard paints that you can paint over with normal wall paint. This is another plus point for me, because our walls will certainly not stay that way forever (even if I like them more than a lot at the moment).
I just love changes too much for that.
I hope my new contribution to the kitchen has inspired you a little …
The spring .
I look forward to it when it gets warmer and greener outside. I would also be ready for the first cup of coffee on the balcony, walks without thick jackets and of course for more daylight. I’m sure some of you feel the same way. Unfortunately, it still takes a few weeks until spring arrives, so today I have a few ideas on DIY spring decorations with flowers that we can use to sweeten the waiting time a bit.
MAKE SPRING DECORATIONS WITH FLOWERS YOURSELF
The beautiful ranunculus and bell jar are allowed to start. A glass bell with a wooden base has been on my wish list for a long time. Unfortunately it took me a while to find one that I really like. The great thing about glass bells is that you can use them for many things. Here I have combined it with my favorite flower – ranunculus. You can of course also use a flower bulb or small plants. By the way, on the picture you can see my new ceiling lamp. I am really very happy to have found this lamp, because previously there was a lightbulb hanging in this place that you could not really call beautiful.
The second decoration idea is also very easy to imitate. Combine a large glass flower vase with long-stemmed flowers in spring-like colors. To spice things up a little, you can paint the glass vase with a porcelain pen, but please do not burn it in. Since the vase is not burned in after painting, you can undo the change at any time. A round in the dishwasher is usually sufficient.
Did you discover the wooden floor of the bell jar here? I used it here as a coaster for my favorite cup. I say yes, the decorative glass bell is super versatile …
My decoration on the dining table is usually rather minimalistic. For everyday life, I just find it more pleasant when the table is not so clutterly decorated. Even if the motto “less is more” applies here, the table decorations do not necessarily have to be boring.
Here I have combined a glass bowl with the brightly colored carnations and coarse decorative sand. So that the decorative bowl doesn’t look lost on the large table, it is written on the wooden letter X (the instructions for this are also available here on the blog). The whole thing is rounded off with an LED light chain made of wire.
Tip: The glass bowl would also look great in a macrame hanging basket.
Lastly, I’ll show you my favorite. This decorative house literally screams for spring, if only because of the tulips. Actually, this metal house with the glasses is intended for tea lights. But as you can see here, the glasses are also suitable as vases. The self-made pennant chains are, so to speak, the icing on the cake.
And so you can imitate them:
- First you cut out small triangles from the drawing paper.
- Then you have to apply a thin strip of glue to one side of the triangle. Put the thread on it. You do that for all triangles.
- When the glue is dry, you can turn the pennant chain over, then either write on it with a white pen or you can use letter stickers. Hang it up and you’re done!
Tip: Did you know that tulips continue to grow in the vase? So not only the flowers of the tulips get bigger (as with almost all cut flowers) but also the stems. Sometimes even up to 10 cm. You should keep this in mind if you want to make a mixed bouquet with tulips.
